Is cell phone snatching a new celebrity trend?

Russell Brand was arrested early Thursday for allegedly taking a photographer's cell phone and throwing it through the window of a New Orleans law firm, TMZ reports. Last month, Chris Brown allegedly took a fan's cell phone and drove off with it after she tried to take a picture of him leaving a Miami club.

Brand, 36, turned himself in to New Orleans police and was in police custody as of early Thursday.

The incident in question occurred Monday night when Brand became aggravated with a photographer taking his picture with his iPhone, and reportedly grabbed the phone and tossed it through a law office window. Although the photographer reclaimed the phone and Brand agreed to pay for the window, a warrant was issued for Brand's arrest.

"Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently, what I did was a tribute to his memory," Brand tweeted on Wednesday.

Brand filed for divorce from pop star Katy Perry at the end of last year. His new late-night show, Strangely Uplifting, debuts on Thursday, June 28 at 11/10c on FX.
